Do This To Become More Successful as a Personal Trainer

If you’re a regular reader of my articles here on Create Freedom, it’s probably because you are looking for ways to drive more income towards your business so you can both live a less stressful like but also create more positive impact within the health community.

Or, maybe you read my articles just because you want some tips on sales for an online product, or want to learn how an online coach actually runs their business.

Or maybe you’re here to find out if entrepreneurship is even the right thing for you at all (although I would argue that all personal trainers are entrepreneurs in some way).

The collection of these articles and podcasts will all tell the story of how I went from completely flat broke to being able to start and launch several successful business.

But in order to eventually create freedom in your life the way that I did, you’re going to have to learn about money sooner or later.

Let’s Talk About Money

Some people would shudder at my above subtitle, talking about money with some people is extremely uncomfortable because they have this preconceived notion that for some reason success is a bad thing.

That’s insanity. Since when did accomplishing something become a bad thing?

When you make more money you can provide more for your friends and family.

You can send your kids to the school that they dream to go to.

You can donate to charity and give back to your community more than ever.

These are not bad things!

Money is simply a tool, how you wield it determines if it is going to be a bad thing or not. But if you’re a good person there is absolutely no shame in admitting to yourself that you want to be successful and you want to make more money.

Now that that’s out of the way and we have rid ourselves of the shackles of guilt that your friends and family might place on you for wanting more out of life, we can move on and get in to exactly how you’re going to do that.

Driving Entrepreneurial Success In The Fitness Industry

Not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur, but everyone wants to be more financially stable.

Money is a science all by itself.

How to make it, how to grow it, and then how to multiply it are all “periodization” steps in the finance world.

The first step in this process is the step that is my personal clear-cut philosophy for investing, growing wealth, and becoming financially secure.

That is…

Whatever you focus on grows.

If you pay too much attention to the haters online, you will absorb that negativity into your DNA. Which will then negatively impact your business and network.

If you pay too much attention to getting laid, you will make a lot of friends at the bar, but your business will remain stagnant; and if you’re not moving forward you’re moving backward.

If you pay too much attention to your competition, you will end up sacrificing your own creativity and talents at the expense of trying to keep up with whatever they are doing.

Money will always flee inhospitable environments, just like everything else does.

Instead, pay attention to your business and pay attention to your money. Keep your path uncluttered, do not become distracted, tune out the noise from the outside world, and money will take notice and start making its way towards you.

Getting Clear

I am not telling you to avoid constructive criticism, but I am telling you to avoid the and ignore the people who think it can’t be done.

Plenty of people in my life never expected anything from me. I was a machine shop kid with bad grades.

It was assumed I would have to work for someone else if I was going to be successful, that I’d never go to college, and that I’d definitely never own several businesses all doing multiple six-figures each per year at the same time.

Thank god I had self-motivation because my environment certainly wasn’t providing any of that for me.

One of the most intelligent things I ever did wasn’t very intelligent at all, I had a “what do they know” approach to everything that I did, and I still carry that with me today.

It all travels back to what you focus on.

If I focused on their input, I wouldn’t even be writing this article to you right now. I’d be miserable and cutting plane engine parts on a waterjet.

Instead, I focused on what I needed to do to grow the business and grow my knowledge no matter what.

I’ll bet you were in a similar scenario yourself.

Retrace your steps to this day.

At what points in your life were you focusing on the things that weren’t serving your vision?

I bet those things grew and your vision didn’t, huh?

How about the times when you were motivated and checking in on your goals everyday, I bet they did improve, didn’t they?

That’s how all of this works.

Apps like Google calendar are great to use for productivity because they keep your focus on the area that you need to grow. It physically alerts you and reminds you that you need to get back on track and start creating.

I know as a coach you only want to focus on things like training, nutrition, and supplementation; and because of this passion you have been able to develop a high level of knowledge in one or more of these areas.

But, I need you to use that lesson you learned from applied effort and start putting that into your business and financial life now as well.

Final Thoughts

Today’s article is very simple, but there is a real beauty in simplicity.

If you focus on your bank accounts everyday, you will know where everything is going and be more knowledgeable towards optimizing it.

If you focus on your content creation everyday, you will push so much energy into the universe that it will be impossible for you not to get noticed.

If you focus on your teamwork everyday, your staff will feel more welcomed and will push harder to drive your ultimate vision.

No matter how you spin it, good or bad, what you focus on grows.

Today, my businesses are alive and thriving. I remain keenly aware of this privilege that the world has given me everyday, all day, from the moment I get up until the moment I go to sleep.

I measure my success by asking myself a few questions every day:

  1. What do the accounts look like?
  2. What did you create today?
  3. Are your customers happier today than they were yesterday?
  4. What can I do better or differently tomorrow?

These questions keep me focused on the right paths for growth, and I work my ass off to make sure they come to fruition.

Do I have to make some brutal decisions sometimes?

Sure.

But that’s one of the things I love about success and money, there is no gray zone.

You are either moving forward or you’re not.

NOT subjective my friends.

When I hear personal trainers shrugging off the fact that they have no clients because of “the market” it bothers me to no end because the ultimate truth about the market is that it doesn’t give a crap about me or you, instead, it only requires that we focus on it every day.

And when we do…it grows.
